Promoting the Use of IT and Broadband in Elgin County

Project:

Conducted economic gap analysis of region and prepared economic development plan for investing in broadband and ICT in Elgin County, Ontario.

(February - September 2004)

Results:

Identified economic drivers and types of businesses in Elgin County that would benefit from IT and broadband. Developed a plan to assist local community and business leaders accelerate the uptake of IT and broadband and shorten the path for economic growth. Identified under-serviced business sectors necessary for diversified, robust local economy.

Communities and Regions

The business case for broadband must be developed in the context of each unique environment. Investments need to be targeted and customized to local economic development needs. Communities and regions choose SNG for three reasons:

  • To accelerate economic and social development opportunities through strategic investments in broadband and value-added services
  • To understand the return on investment beyond the traditional business case and provide a solid rationale for investment in sustainable information and communication technologies (ICT) for the long term benefit of their community.
  • To access unique analysis based on hard economic data to identify local economic drivers and prepare development strategies that address gaps and leverage strengths.
