Design and Pilot Implementation of the Community Access Project for Trinidad and Tobago

Project:

Conducted on-site needs analysis of user groups, developed and coordinated implementation of pilot public information access centres and developed a roll-out strategy for national deployment.

(March 2006 – ongoing)

Results:

Implemented pilots and developed plan for the general population to access the information and services needed for Trinidad and Tobago to become a knowledge-based society and achieving its goal of a developed country status by the year 2020.

A business case for broadband is not enough, investments need to be targeted and customized to economic development needs. Governments at all levels choose SNG for three reasons:

  • To stimulate community economic development through appropriate policy design and strategic planning for broadband deployment and accelerating the uptake of ICT services.
  • For pragmatic and meaningful analysis to understand the return on investment from various technology and service investment options – critical input for strategic planning, as well as program evaluation and impact assessment.
